On December 28, 2015 my world came crashing down to a point that was life or death.
I had surgery on my left lower lobe of my lung not knowing whether I was coughing up blood from cancer or some other unknown terminal illness. It turned out I had contracted a rare disease known as Valley Fever. Being a professional baseball player, I had spent much time in Arizona and California’s deserts pursuing my dreams. The dust storms in those areas can expose people to a fungal infection that is not only incurable, but can kill you pretty easily. Thanking God for this second chance at life, I dedicated much time post operation learning how to workout without hampering my immune system. The immune system reacts both positively and negatively to exercise, so knowing which one’s are beneficial and avoiding the forms of exercise that are harmful are critically important for anyone with a disease. I am not a victim, I am a survivor. I figured out how to fight back and get in shape to play the game I love again, even though now it’s just a weekend hobby of mine. I can physically do things I did in my sport before my illness and I am proud of that. My goal in writing this book is to give hope to those who feel defeated by life threatening disease. You have so much more of your life to live and you don’t even know it. You can not only survive disease, but you can succeed again. Better than ever before. You will read about proper diet, supplementation, and exercise to boost your immune system into FIGHT MODE. You will become STRONG again. As I write this description, I tear up because I truly empathize for those of you who are going through the struggle right now. I want to give you every possible piece of information I can to help you take control of your life again. I do not know you, but I have love for each and every one of you. God bless you, and times will get better. Always hold on to hope.
